Dr. Russell Nelligan is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in comprehensive ophthalmology, cornea and anterior segment care, external eye disease management, and general eye care. He is committed to providing compassionate, patient-centered treatment using evidence-based medicine and advanced surgical and diagnostic techniques to help patients maintain and improve their vision.

Dr. Nelligan earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Florida College of Medicine after graduating summa cum laude from the University of Florida with a degree in Behavioral Neuroscience and a minor in History. He completed his internship in internal medicine and ophthalmology residency at Louisiana State University before pursuing a cornea fellowship at the University of Texas-Southwestern Department of Ophthalmology. During his residency, he managed a high-volume clinical and surgical caseload, including extensive cataract surgery experience.

Since arriving in St. Augustine in 2011, Dr. Nelligan has performed thousands of cataract procedures and has extensive experience with advanced surgical technologies and procedures including LenSx, ORA, MIGS (goniotomy, canaloplasty), YAG capsulotomy, LPI, and SLT. He has also performed multiple ocular surface surgeries such as ocular surface reconstruction, pterygiectomy with graft, superficial keratectomy, and conjunctivoplasty. As a dry eye specialist, Dr. Nelligan excels in managing patients with dry eye disease that have not responded to conventional treatment. He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the American Medical Association.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Nelligan enjoys the outdoors, live music, playing bass guitar, and spending time with his family.
